Perfect Plan

(Doug Davis, © 2006)

When I was a little boy about the age of three,

I began to wonder who I was and what I’d be.

And then when I had grown a bit, about the age of seven,

I sent up a simple prayer so I would go to heaven.

CHORUS:

Well, God was working on His perfect plan,

And he’s got a lot of work to do.

He don’t have to show it,

And we don’t have to know it.

But God’s got a plan for me and you.

Then my daddy sat me down in 1983,

He said “Boy, you better start to think ‘bout your eternity.”

“Before I start to work on that, I’ve got some things to do.”

So I can I borrow twenty bucks, and I’ll get back to you?”

CHORUS

And then I’m in a suit and tie and doing my career.

And thinking I would rule the world, and I was getting there.

But I could never buy my way to my own happiness.

And I figured that was all there was and that was it, I guessed.

CHORUS

But then I Saw the Light and His Love Lifted Me,

Amazing Grace. How Great Thou Art, A Closer Walk With Thee

And now I start to see His hand in every little thing

And with all my heart I’m praising God with every song I sing.

Yeah, God’s been working on His perfect plan,

Though we may not always agree.

He don’t have to show it,

And we don’t have to know it.

But God’s got a plan for you and me.

CHORUS
